L-Leucine is an essential amino acid with the chemical formula C6H13NO2. It is an enantiomer with D-leucine. It is a white, shiny hexahedral crystal or a white crystalline powder at room temperature. It is odorless and slightly bitter. It sublimates at 145-148°C. The melting point is 293-295°C (decomposition). It is stable in aqueous inorganic acid solutions in the presence of hydrocarbons.
