Citrus aurantium extract is the dried young fruit of Citrus aurantium L. and its cultivars or Citrus sinensis Osbeck, a plant of the Rutaceae family. The fruit that falls by itself is collected in May and June, and the impurities are removed, and the extract is dried in the sun or dried at low temperature. This product is hemispherical, with a diameter of 3 to 5 cm. The outer peel is brown or brownish brown, with granular protrusions, and the top of the protrusion has a concave oil chamber; there are obvious style remnants or fruit stalk marks. The mesocarp is yellow-white in cross section, smooth and slightly raised, 0.4 to 1.3 cm thick, with 1 to 2 rows of oil chambers scattered on the edge. It is hard and not easy to break. The pulp capsule has 7 to 12 lobes, a few to 15 lobes, and the juice capsule is shrunk to brown to brown, with seeds inside. It has a fresh fragrance and tastes bitter and slightly sour. The fruit that falls by itself is collected in May and June, and the impurities are removed, and the extract is dried in the sun or dried at low temperature. The ones with hard texture and strong fragrance are preferred. It is mainly distributed in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Guizhou, Sichuan, Jiangxi and other places.
Citrus aurantium, a plant of the Rutaceae family, is widely distributed in China. Citrus aurantium is the traditional name for sour orange in China. In traditional Chinese medicine, Citrus aurantium is a traditional folk herb, mainly used to enhance appetite and regulate qi (energy). In Italy, Citrus aurantium has also been one of the traditional folk prescriptions since the 16th century, used to treat fevers such as malaria and as an antibacterial agent. Recent studies have shown that Citrus aurantium can replace ephedra to treat obesity without adverse cardiovascular side effects.
Functions of Citrus Aurantium seed Extract
Synephrine is the main active ingredient in the fruit of the sour orange, which is effective in preventing excess energy (calorie accumulation), dispelling wind and regulating qi, warming the stomach and promoting appetite, and accelerating metabolism. Sour orange theoretically accelerates fat metabolism without the adverse cardiovascular side effects seen in patients taking ephedra. It is also a mild aromatic expectorant, a nervine, and a laxative for constipation.
Weight Loss
The most likely explanation for the weight loss function of sour orange extract is the like effects of the alkaloids. Although the effects are probably slightly less potent than those and are not as active as ephedra, users can expect variable effects including consuming excess calories, reducing appetite, and increasing satiety, all of which may lead to weight loss. A study in dogs also suggested that synephrine can increase the metabolic rate in a special type of fat tissue called brown fat.
Because synephrine and other components of Citrus Aurantium are structurally similar and act as agonists for specific adrenergic receptors (Beta-3, but not Beta-1, Beta-2 or Alpha-1), Citrus Aurantium does not have the negative effects on the central nervous system that ephedra does, which stimulates all beta-adrenergic receptors.
Mild Stimulant
Research suggests that synephrine's energy-enhancing effects may stimulate the central nervous system. This combined effect may include increased blood flow to the heart and brain, increased blood pressure and improved mental activity, making synephrine a good candidate for use as a mild stimulant.
Digestive System
According to traditional usage, Citrus Aurantium Aurantium extract can stimulate gastric function and thus improve digestive system activity by stimulating gastric function, such as relaxation and reducing flatulence. This may also help reduce nausea and eliminate stomach disturbances such as flatulence and bloating.
Sterilization
Citrus Aurantium Aurantium extract is a non-toxic, organic, sterilized product. It has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in vitro and inhibit the ability of certain viruses to infect. Therefore, the extract is widely used as a disinfectant solvent component, a food or cosmetic preservative and industrially as a fungicide, antibacterial agent, antiparasitic agent and antiviral agent.
