Taurodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA), also known as 3 α, 7 β dihydroxycholanyl-N-Taurine, is a conjugated bile acid formed by the condensation of the carboxyl group of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) with the amino group of taurine.

Basic Information

Taurodeoxycholic acid, as a cell protective agent, can improve liver function and prevent hepatocellular carcinoma by reducing endoplasmic reticulum stress and cell apoptosis. It can significantly reduce the expression of apoptotic molecules such as Caspase-3 and Caspase-12, and also inhibit ERK. Under endoplasmic reticulum stress conditions, TUDCA treatment of MSCs (mesenchymal stem cells) can reduce the activation of endoplasmic reticulum stress-related proteins, inhibit the dissociation between GRP78 and PERK, and thus reduce endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced cell death. In a mouse hind limb ischemia model, compared with untreated mesenchymal stem cell transplantation, TUDCA treated mesenchymal stem cell transplantation can promote angiogenesis and improve the survival rate of transplanted cells.
